About us

Elim Christian Vocational Training Centre, Igede started as a Centre Based Institution for children and adults with disabilities which later became a Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation programme in 1990.  It is situated in the rural area of Igede; Oju and Obi LGAs, Benue State.

Her activities include Inclusive Education, economic integration, eye/orthopaedic services, provision of assistive devices, vocational training, and advocacy for persons with disabilities among others. Elim uses the Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) approach in her operations with the CBR Matrix as a guide. Some of our policy documents include Health, Safety and Security, Environmental Risk Assessment and Safeguarding Policy.

CHALLENGES

We are faced with the challenge of inadequate commitment from stakeholders, inaccessible roads and general poor infrastructures coupled with a challenging economy.

Persons with disability (PWDs) in developing countries of the world suffer not only from their disability but are also forced to live in perpetual denial of their fundamental human rights. Evidence shows that persons with disability often experience poorer levels of health care, education and livelihood, they are constantly discriminated against by their communities and society, which affects not only their physical health but mental health.

The least we can do for them is to join hands together across the world to lift these burdens off their shoulders. Over the years, we have been able to channel donor’s funds to address amongst others, the issues of health, education, livelihood, social and empowerment for persons with disability; but there’s so much more we can do with your help.
