Celebrating the International Day of Sign Languages at Elim CVTC – 23 September

23 September 2026, Elim Christian Vocational Training Centre joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of Sign Languages. From our home base in Ega- Ibilla, Oju Local Government Area, and across Obi LGA and the wider Benue State, we stand tall with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

At Elim CVTC, firmly believe that sign language connects us, and inclusion empowers us.

Why Sign Language Matters in Our Grassroots Communities

Sign language is not just a collection of gestures; it is a rich, structural, and fully realized natural language. In rural and urban communities across Benue State, promoting sign language is a vital pathway to securing fundamental human rights, inclusive education, and economic integration.

Breaking the Silence: Deaf and hearing-impaired individuals face unique vulnerabilities, Sign language is the ultimate bridge that brings them out of isolation and into the light of community life.

Linguistic Diversity: Globally, there are over 300 different sign languages representing more than 70 million deaf people. Right here in Nigeria, promoting local sign language integration ensures no child or adult is left behind.

A Call to Action for Benue State

True inclusion is a collective responsibility. Today, we call on local governments, educators, business owners, and faith leaders across Oju, Obi, and Benue State to take action:

  1. Support Deaf Education: Encourage early sign language learning for children to boost their cognitive and social development.
  2. Create Accessible Spaces: Ensure public community events, church services, and vocational spaces consider the needs of the hearing impaired.
  3. Open Economic Doors: Hire and empower skilled deaf artisans, tailoring graduates, and computer literate professionals without discrimination.

As an oasis of hope, refreshment, and life, Elim CVTC remains fully dedicated to building a society where everyone – regardless of ability – can communicate, participate, and belong.

Happy International Day of Sign Languages from all of us at Elim CVTC!

Expansion

We at Elim has begun the expansion program

There is programs……………………

The sun setting through a dense forest of trees.
Wind turbines standing on a grassy plain, against a blue sky.
The sun shining over a ridge leading down into the shore. In the distance, a car drives down a road.

Undoubtedly we have no questions to ask which are unanswerable. We must trust the perfection of the creation so far, as to believe that whatever curiosity the order of things has awakened in our minds, the order of things can satisfy. Every man’s condition is a solution in hieroglyphic to those inquiries he would put.
